The Halo Trust
"Thank you very much for your generous contribution to the project "Helping Women Demine Theri Own Communities" in Cambodia, in conjunction with last week's Utica Rotary Landmine Awareness Dinner Event. Your donation has been matched 100% by a grant from the U.S. Department of State.
The project has been conducted in Banteay Ti Muoy and Tuol Pongro villages, which are in Malai district, Benteay Meanchey province, and has made very good progress so far. As of September 30th, 18.2 acres of mined land has been cleared, meaning the project has already exceeded its goal of clearing 16 acres. The area cleared so far includes four minefields finished and handed back to local communities, and two additional minefields currently in process of being cleared. Twenty-six landmines and other explosive items have been found and destroyed. There have been 84 direct beneficiaries of the work so far: the owners of the land and their families, who will now be able to grow food on the land. The two cleared minefields will yield $8,000 of annual income to the families who will farm them.
In addtion, over 3,000 people have been made safer by having these minefields removed from their villages.
It is thanks to contributions from you and other committed individuals that this project can occur. The partnership between Rotary, The HALO Trust, and the U.S. Department of State has made a tremendous difference in the lives of rural Cambodians over the years. We thank you for adding to this success, and for helping transform lives on the other side of the world.

"The Landmine Awareness Dinner on October 21, 2011 was a huge success. Your contribution of $1,000 helped us surpass our goal of $8,000. So far we have collecte4d over $9,000 which, when matched by the US Department of State Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement, will put over $18,000 into demining another field on the K5 region of NW Cambodia.
Your friendship and partnership with me, my family and the Utica Rotary Club is precious in itself as Ingrid and I really enjoy your company last weekend. We indeed look forward to returning the visit in the near future.
